There are several apprenticeship models designed to meet different participant and workforce needs:

Registered Apprenticeship (RA) programs are a U.S. Department of Labor (DOL)-certified professional learning model that prepares a skilled workforce by combining structured coursework with on-the-job learning and progressive wages.
Youth Apprenticeship and Youth RA models target individuals ages 16–24, combining coursework with training and sometimes offering progressive wages and dual college credit; requirements vary by state.
Pre-Apprenticeship Programs prepare candidates with foundational skills to qualify for RA, often through high schools or adult education programs.

As a best practice, all apprenticeship models incorporate a framework of mentorship and support that helps equip participants with the knowledge, hands-on experience, and supportive services that contribute to success in ECE careers.
